	Edward joined the Betsy Layne Fire Dept. on January 7th, 1983, and obtained his Level I firefighter certification on December 12th, 1984. He was elected as Quarter Master on March 25th, 1985, and held the office until April 24th, 1986. He was elected as Lieutenant on February 10th, 1986, and served in that capacity until February 9th, 1987, when he was elected as both Captain and Secretary. His term as Secretary came to an end on February 11th, 1991. He served as Captain until being elected as Assistant Fire Chief on February 13th, 1989, and he still presently holds the office. On August 1st, 1992, Edward obtained his Level I instructor certification. The 1997 Firefighter of the Year obtained both his Level II firefighter and Level II instructor certification on September 3rd, 1996, as Edward also serves as the department's training supervisor. On June 28th, 2008, he was awarded with a plaque for 25 years of service where in both being an instructor and firefighter he has accumulated over 2,650 training hours with the department. Edward and his family attend both the Betsy Layne Freewill Baptist Church and the Vogel-Day United Methodist Church.
