	Brian joined the Betsy Layne Fire Dept. on March 5th, 1990. He was first elected as Secretary on February 11th, 1991, and served in that capacity until July 27th, 1992. He served as Vice President from February 8th, 1993, until February 14th, 1994, and was also awarded as the 1993 Betsy Layne Firefighter of the Year. It was also during 1993, on February 12th, that he obtained his Level I firefighter certification. Brian was elected Quarter Master on February 14th, 1994, and held the office until February 12th, 2007. He served two different terms as Water Resource Officer with the first being from February 12th, 1996, until February 9th, 2004, and later from February 13th, 2006, until February 12th, 2007. Brian was re-elected as Secretary on February 23rd, 1998. He obtained his Level II firefighter certification on July 30th, 2006, and, on June 28th, 2008, was awarded with a service plaque of 18 years to the fire department and community during which time he has accumulated over 1,815 fire training hours with the Betsy Layne Fire Dept. On February 22nd, 2010, Brian was again appointed as Quartermaster of the Betsy Layne Fire Dept. He and his wife, Michelle, attend the Betsy Layne United Methodist church. Brian has been a Kentucky State Police telecommunicator since March 1st, 1994, at which time he was assigned to Post 9 in Pikeville where he has since obtained levels of Telecommunicator II, Communications Training Officer, and post-level Civilian Orientation training representative.
