James A George
Records indicate that Jim was one of the original members of the old Betsy Layne Men's Club in the summer of 1947 up until it's non-existence in 1976.

It would also be during 1976, on December 1st, that Jim would receive his Level I firefighter certification.

He would stay on with the fire department and serve several more years. He first served as Secretary/Treasurer from January 7th, 1952, until January 22nd, 1955.

Jim would again be elected to serve as Secretary/Treasurer on October 6th, 1958, and his term ended on August 23rd, 1976.

During this time, Jim was elected as our 3rd fire chief on March 9th, 1963, and his term lasted throughout August 20th, 1973.

He held the office of Assistant Fire Chief from May 24th, 1976, until May 23rd, 1977.

Jim served as President from February 27th, 1978, until June 25th, 1979. He served as Assistant Fire Chief from February 27th, 1978, until March 23rd, 1981.

Jim was elected as Secretary/Treasurer again on June 25th, 1979, however the office was changed to Secretary only on October 22nd, 1984, due to the board being established and he served in that position until February 9th, 1987.

He was one of the department's original protection district board members with Bobby Branham being the other firefighter representative as both were elected on October 22nd, 1984. Jim resigned before his term had expired on February 10th, 1986.

Having accumulated 4,684 fire training hours, Jim resigned from the dept. on June 22nd, 1987, and was later recognized by the State Fire Commission as a Level II certified firefighter on January 2nd, 1992.

Jim passed away on May 8th, 1995, and was laid to rest at the Davidson Memorial Gardens cemetery at Ivel.
