On Friday, at approximately 1:54 in the afternoon, Firefighter Danny Keen was the first on scene of a three-vehicle accident on U.S. 23 a few hundred feet south of the traffic lights and the Ky 979 junction.  He had someone notify 911 and the dept. was then toned out.

Also responded to the scene with several other firefighters and ems units was KSP Trooper William Petry who said that a female occupant in one of the vehicles had been injured and later transported to a local hospital where she was going to remain overnight for observation however the chaos had also caused another minor accident to occur across the roadway as an on-looker not paying attention to what they were doing collided with the back of another vehicle.
